My Philosophy of Education
Teaching is like dieting, it’s one of the hardest things to do, but it can be a very rewarding experience. It requires dedication and perseverance in order to be successful. Just like a well laid out plan, By sticking to an individual plan, I can reach my goal, which will be priceless. Like a well laid out plan, great teachers are the foundation of an outstanding education. The role of a teacher is to make a difference; therefore, I want to bring back the desire to learn and to help all students achieve their maximum learning potential in a safe, stable environment.
My role as a teacher would be to first establish a relationship with each individual student. Through invitation, opportunity, investment, persistence, and reflection I will get to know my students. In a child’s education, having a teacher who cares is one key to their success. As a teacher, I would prepare my students for the needed skills that will lead them to a productive and successful adulthood. I will also challenge my students to improve their brainpower and gifts as fully as possible. One way I plan to do this is by setting high expectations. I will work my hardest to mobilize resources inside and outside of the school in hopes to help students utilize what is out there for them.
The needs of my students will come first in my class. Students will take responsibility for their own education by showing me through affirmation, contribution, power, purpose, and challenge that they are receiving everything they need to succeed in my classroom. Another role of the students will be to teach themselves and others when feasible. Students will understand that learning carries on outside the classroom and for life.
Every student has the right to an exceptional education. I understand that my process of instruction may not be the same for all students and classrooms. Through differentiation I will provide all students to learn the same content in various ways. I will keep in mind that there are three different types of learners; visual, kinesthetic and auditory. My job will be to identify the learning styles that work best for my individual students. Continuous assessments, will allow me to determine who is behind, who is with me (on level) and who exceeds my expectations.
Every student also has the right to learn in a safe, stable environment. Classroom rules and expectations will be made clear and discussed on the first day of school, and followed throughout the school year. Students can have the ability to take risks knowing nothing or no one will hurt them. Every student should be treated fairly. Diverse learners will be embraced and cared for with respect.
“The more I learn, the more I learn how little I know.” – Socrates. My promise as a teacher is to continue to learn. I know that I will also be a student in my classroom. The great thing about being a teacher is that students will also teach you. Being a teacher will allow me to be in a learning environment every day. If I’m a good teacher, I will take advantage of that situation and learn.
